An Oral History of Halsway Manor Society

When did you first get involved in Halsway Manor? Do you have a story to tell?

Halsway Manor Society celebrates 50 years in 2015 – and is embarking on a major oral history project to uncover their unique story as part of their Golden Jubilee celebrations! The project – TELLING TALES – is supported by a grant of £41,100 from the Heritage Lottery Fund.

Halsway Manor Society has played a significant role in the folk revival since the 1960s; several generations of people – from the region and from all over the country – had their first experiences of participating in folk music, dance and song at Halsway Manor, including many well known folk musicians and singers.http://www.officiallouisvuittononlinestore.cc

TELLING TALES will focus on the people involved in the Society since its inception in 1965, collecting stories, recollections and memorabilia from the early days to the present through a team of volunteers. The oral history interviews and research materials will be archived and accessible through Somerset County Council’s Heritage Service and will also inform a new publication – The Halsway Manor Society Folk Map – which will be freely available in print and online.http://www.coachoutletsonlinestore-usa.us

If you are interested becoming an oral history interviewer or volunteering to help with research then Halsway Manor can offer free training in oral history in partnership with Somerset Archives, and some expenses. There are places for 30 volunteers.

“Oral history work is incredibly rewarding and Halsway needs your help, so please do get in touch! I’m also seeking names of potential interviewees. Could this be you?”  say Yvette Staelens, TELLING TALES Project Manager.

There will be a ‘Tea, Song and Dance’ event on Wednesday 15 October from 12 noon till 4pm, which will be an opportunity for all those interested in the project to come together, meet Yvette, and to find out more.

Further volunteer training sessions will take place at Halsway Manor and at Somerset Heritage Centre during November.free nike wallpapers
